This diptych explores the idea of perception, particularly how our perspective is influenced by how we choose to view the world around us. The phrase ‘you are exactly who you think you are’ technically means nothing at all, containing neither a positive or negative connotation, yet each person defines it in a unique way. Both of these paintings depict the same subjects, colour palette, and ornament, yet one can be identified as dystopia while the other as utopia. A forest of ornament frames the subjects, as one considers how environment impacts our person, and vice versa.
